Very concerned about Journey 2010 SE Fuel Performance
Folks just bought a 2010 not even a month ago...
Its a Journey SE.
I am coming from driving an old ford V6 windstar, which on average gave me 400K for a full 80L tank...
thinking the journey is a new car, with a 4Cycl engine i expected a bigg difference...
Oddly I am a bit concerened..
First off what i have calculated is the tank is about 60L... can someone confirm if that is right?
My last fill up was a full tank of gas, so 60 Full L... for that 60L all i got was 298KMs and the fuel light just came on..
does this sound right to any one??
the advert states 11L for 100Kms city ... and 7L for 100Kms HWay...
even if i go worse case..on that forumale I should be getting atleast 540Km for a full tank...so I am super concerned here as one of my main point to drop down to a V4 was the mileage....any input?
what do you guys think, should I go back into the dealer and talk to them or am I miss calculating?

so you think its just the amount of work the engine has to do to pull the weight is just using up the fuel...and to add for the most part I drive alone, if i start driving with all 7 passengers im gona be spending the same if not more fuel then a V6 not to mention the wear and tear on the engine....
whats the policy with Dodge can i return and exchange for a v6?

Yea, the weak engine is just having to work harder than what the V6 would. The struggle along with a 4 speed automatic geared to pull the weight around is killing it. The V6 is IMO a little on the weaker side for the weight as well if you add 7 people, but not horrid. Not too mention similar V6's in the class have 265-275 hp. I HIGHLY doubt you can exchange it, you may be stuck unless you can trade. Sorry.

an underpowered vehicle will get worse gas mileage than an overpowered one, every time. BTW, first tank in mom's Journey she averaged 22.3 mpg, mostly around town driving with some short hops on the interstate. Over-all not bad during break-in. Her Grand Caravan with the 4.0 V6 got about 19.5 for the same type of hopping around town.
IMO the 173 HP I4 mated with a 4 speed tranny is woefully underpowered for a 3800 lb. vehicle and can't possibly get the fuel economy of a 235 HP V6 with a 6 speed transmission. Even on the interstate where you would expect the I4 to have an advantage, the final overdrive gear ratio of the 6 speed dictates that the V6 would hold an mpg advantage there as well.
My local dealer had about a dozen Journey's on his lot and stated he orders one 4 cylinder SE for the lot to satisfy the $18,995 ads, but all the rest are V6 SXTs because that's the one that sells.

Right on. The 6 speed in these things is stretched pretty far out as well, so 100% highway driving in the V6 you can pop 500+ miles in 1 tank. Trying to talk the wife into going to Gatlinburg, TN this weekend for the snow, if we do I will keep you up to date on mpg's.
I honestly don't think the 4 cylinder should even be an option in this vehicle. Keeps price down, but there really isn't an advantage past that. Even the dealer told me he took one for a spin and was very unhappy.
