Question Rearview mirror and an electric dock

Two things I can't figure out from reading the manual:

The rear view mirror has a green indicator light that comes on, and a power button next to it, and what looks like a photo cell on the right. I think it has something to do with making the mirror darker for night, to reduce headlights of vehicles approaching from the rear.

So, do I activate this feature by hitting the little power button so the green light goes off? Or is it on by default? What does the little power button change?

Question two:

Opening the gate at the rear, and on the driver side there appears to be some kind of dock for something, with two electric contacts on the bottom. What's that for?

The dock is for the flashlight. Standard on Lux (Canadian R/T)... Included with sound and nav group in other trims...

Thanks, now I know what it's for, even if I can't use it!
