19 inches wheels vs 17 wheels
What is the advantage on having 17 inches wheels compare to 19 inches wheels on a 2012 Journey Crew?
|
More choices of tires at a lower cost?
|
Tires are a lot cheaper and easier to find.
We are talking about $160 per tire on a 17", or $240 per tire for 19" for the exact same brand/model tire. |
Thank you for the information. Now what about the performance, will I get better milage (per gallon) with a 19' wheel compare to 17' wheel?
|
You'll get better fuel economy with a smaller wheel, since steel weighs more than rubber walls and air. You'll also get a smoother ride due to more sidewall to flex and absorb bumps.
Really, the only advantage to larger wheels is looks... |
HammerZ71 : Thank you very much for your information, this will help me on my decision when I trade in my next Journey. Rej

thanks for the info.
i was under the impression 19'' tyres are kinda hard to find. i have the 17'' on my '12 journey |
Well, I traded my 2009 Journey SXT for a 2012 Journey Crew, with the $2,500. rebate I couldn't wait any longer. This one was on the lot, unfortunately it came with the 19" tires and it had all the options I wanted. So I guess I will find out if it is as good on gas then the old one. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Good Luck
Hope you squeeze better miles out of those 19s. My 2010 with 17s crushed the stock Kumho tires; its got 23,000 miles now and we'll be lucky if we see 30,000 miles out of the set.
The Journey is a big, heavy car and should probably have heavier-duty SUV/CUV tires instead of passenger tires. I'm probably going that route when I replace them. |
Yes the Kumho tires are very soft and grippy,
I noticed it the first time I turned the wheels while standing still on asphalt-left rubber marks. |
