Spark knock and Droan and low Idle when trying to speed up on 2010 Dodge Journey SXT
Hey Guys,
I have a slight problem with my used Dodge Journey it has lots of spark knock and it has a loud Droan noise and when all that is happening the motor bogs when trying to idle at a speed, slowly speeding up on city streets and going up steep hills.
Is there any engineers on here that can help me. My dealership sees this but they say they don't know how to fix. I am also getting a belt squeeling issue but had tensioner and belt already replaced.

Take it to a different dealer. There is a known problem out there for the transmission having issues. Put enough pressure on the dealer and you will get a new transmission put in. Also call Chrysler customer care directly. I did and they were excellent and even repaired mine outside of the warranty period.

below is what I have been through:
Here is a tid bit of information for you all. I have been dealing with Chrysler Canada customer care manager to get my problems in my 2010 Dodge Journey SXT fixed before I go on vacation. Now the have pushed and pushed dates. I have taken it to a dealership and they have heard and stated in the vehicle with me that its not normal for it to be doing that. I have gotten Chrysler Canada involved and the tech's don't even care to even help customers. Example two days ago I told the dealership and the Chrysler Canada manager I was bringing in my vehicle to service for the Chrysler Canada tech can test drive it yesterday. I get there at 9am and I leave for a bit and come back 4 hours later and my vehicle is still sitting in the same spot. Where is the Chrysler Canada tech. Well my guess is good as yours. Then it starts raining. The tech finally calls and guess what sorry sir we can't do it because of weather. You telling me you couldn't drive it in the first 4 hours I was waiting for you to do it. Chrysler Canada is getting sloppy and the mechanics are as well. The good news is I can take a Judge and put my vehicle with another one side by side. According to Chrysler Canada tech/engineer and manager it should be doing to all 2010 Dodge Journey's SXT 3.5l 6speed auto. Well lets prove Chrysler wrong. I would win in a heart beat. So to keep it out of the news. I am requesting DODGE to buy my vehicle back and give me a 2013 Dodge Journey R/T with extended warranty for the hassle and ignorance and neglect they have caused. I have proof over 3 vehicles going from the first two with mechanics from different dealerships to Chrysler Canada officials and techs not wanting to help but to push a customer away.
If any Chrysler person that is interested in settling this before it really goes public please contact me ASAP. I am willing to keep quite but at the cost of Chrysler buying my vehicle and putting me into 2013 Dodge Journey R/T with extended warranty at no cost to me.
History of mechanic/tech/engineer faults:
2010 Dodge Journey SXT 6 cylinder 6 speed auto (3.5liter)
- bought vehicle
- from day one droan noise, rattling in front right passenger engine compartment, truck exhaust noise really loud inside cab of vehicle as well when vehicle is making the problem.
- chrysler canada was contacted for more assistance in which they came back to me saying that it's a characteristic of all 2010 Dodge Journey's SXT dual exhaust 3.5 liter v6 6 speed auto tranny. Well test drove 6 more cars and they had no problems like mine.
- I have requested letter stating that from xxxxxx and also wrote it on facebook and email from dodge website.
- the dealership manager said it wasn't normal noise when it was happening.
- countryside thought it was a bracket under the vehicle but it isn't and was put back on.
- pinnacle chrysler thought it was the bearings in the transmission and they had those replaced ( the problem still persisted after that)
- belt squeal from front right inside engine compartment happens when idle and driving. countryside replaced belt tensioner and belt and the problem went away for a week and then came back louder. (really noitceable when idling slow and hitting the gas next to a building like tim hortons)
- setup an appt with dealership to have chrysler tech drive the vehicle the next day (i called xxxx and dealership to setup time which was 8:00am the next morning) I got to the dealership that morning and told them I was waiting. Hours go by so I had a friend pick me up and I come back 3 hours later and by this time it's 5 hours gone by and my vehicle is still sitting in the same spot. The tech decides to call 6 hours later when it is just starting to rain to say lets go but then says sorry we can't as the roads are wet. Nice to know they don't call when they were suppose too when customer gets to the dealership then to make them wait for 6 hours for nothing.
- before my vacation xxxx has told me and showed me a vehicle of another customer having similar issue with her Dodge Journey and are now waiting to see what goes on with mine.
Update January 14th, 2013
Here is an update. My vehicle is sitting at the dealership this morning waiting for chrysler canada tech. Well they drove it and the chrysler canada tech has ***** to tell the service manager to go over everything that has already been done or second done. What about the vehicle wanting to immediately get into six gear when your still wanting to speed up and having that issue. What about it going up a mountain with that issue. I am still waiting close by the dealership. I am not too impressed by Chrysler Canada Tech yet. I would be impressed if they would actually fix the real issue than to go over stuff that 2 dealerships looked at.
what about this noise in my motor when it's happening. It sounds like something is knocking bad in low rpm.
