Eliminating the panic button
Apparently I have had all our neighbours talking for some time as I have been activating the panic button on my Journey key fob on average once every 3 days when I have it in my pocket. Yes I have tons of keys on the keychain but I do actually need 90% of them on a regular basis. Long story short I did a net search on how to disable and most of what I found doesn't apply specifically to the Journey fob. I removed the key from the end, and used the slot above the key as a base for a flat screwdriver to start opening the fob up. I then worked my way around the case to open it. The circuit board is held in place with a little plastic pin at one of the bottom corners with the end melted over so it won't come off. I used needle-nosed pliers to squeeze the melted top together to return it to the original size, then pried the circuit board up and off with a small screwdriver. There is an small microswitch that the panic button presses against, so just some tape won't work, and you can't shorten any tabs, etc. to increase the distance you have to press it to activate. I decided to completely eliminate the function, so used a pair of small end nipper pliers to pop the microswitch off the circuit board. Problem solved - no more inadvertent activation. Of course this is fairly permanent so no more panic function, but personally I'm OK with that.
