Grinding noise when wheels turned completely left or right
Before I take my 2010 Journey back to the shop, I like to get everyone's opinion.
I get a grinding noise when I turn the wheel completely to the left or to the right. This happens when moving and even when stationary.
Any thoughts?

I would hazard a guess that it has to do with
constant velocity drive at either wheel.
Physically check for torn or damaged
rubber dust covers/boots at each wheel.
Other things to look for are rub marks on
wheels or rims.

If it does it while your sitting still, that would rule out tires/wheels rubbing against anything, but check the wheel wells for rub marks and have some one look underneath while you are turning the wheel if it does it when your stopped too. Only a couple of things move in such a manner when your stopped that would cause a "grinding" noise, which is usually indicative of metal on metal. Check anything that moves when you turn the wheels. Maybe a bad tie rod. I've never heard a CV joint grind, only pop or click, but that is an area to inspect as well. Especially if the boots are torn as bigstr says. Checked your steering fluid level?
I have a 2012 Journey with 26000 miles on it. It started sounding almost like I needed power steering fluid but was louder and kept getting louder and louder when I made turns either direction. It would also make the noise while it was in park turning steering wheel in either direction. Took to dealership and it was warranty work - had to replace the sleeve for the strut on the right side and also the bearing - all one part.
In advance, please forgive my extreme ignorance related to this (or any) thread on this site.
I have a 2013 Dodge Journey with approximately 45K miles replicating what sounds like this same issue - a grinding sound when I'm turning, whether at a slow speed (backing out of a parking spot, turning into a parking spot) or at a little bit of a faster speed (driving through my neighborhood & going around a curve). It's definitely a low grinding sound & it is getting a bit more prounounced each week. I haven't noticed that my steering seems to be affected in any way. If the issue should be either of the things guessed upon in above responses - needing to replace the sleeve for the strut and the bearing, or having to do with the pulley system - are either of these a danger to my & my son's safety/driving? Also, are either of them a situation of "if you don't care for this now at a certain cost, you'll pay for it much more later when it causes more damage"? If either of these aren't covered under warranty, how much might I be looking at in expense?
Thanks so much! (And thanks for your patience)

In advance, please forgive my extreme ignorance related to this (or any) thread on this site. I'm a single mom trying to figure things out so I don't get ripped off by a dealership. I dated a guy for years who took care of these things for me, but I'm not with him any longer - so trying to navigate this myself before walking in somewhere blind. Thus, I appreciate any guidance.

And this will certainly reveal my ignorance, but I'm being transparent in hopes for help - if it's this pulley system - what kind of pulley system are we talking about? Is there a pulley system related to the struts or steering system in some way, or some other type of pulley system in the engine totally unrelated to steering/turning?
