Question 2010 DJ Fuel delivery problems. Help!!

My wife is driving one day (1 mo ago) it is raining and she hits water puddles on the main road. There appears on the dash a red lightning bolt and she barely gets the car off the road as it dies. Now the car starts perfectly but when she puts in drive, it moves about 3 feet and dies. bit still starts instantly when cranked. over and over she tries. long story short, we get it going and she drives all day as she works about 200 miles. On her way home it is driving rain again and this time when the car dies..... it stays dead. it turns over and over but no start.

Here's what I have done/had done. took the breather hose off the throttle body and sprayed starting fluid in and it cranks right up.... for a second or so. actually, it will run as long as I spray...lol so it is firing, just starving for fuel. Dodge says there's no inline fuel filter. so I figure fuel pump.

I pull it to the dealer and pay them $85.00 to tell me it is starving for fuel and needs a fuel pump. they went on to tell me they will fix it for me for $975.00 parts and labor but there isn't a dealer in the Nation that has the part it's on backorder and on production hold and may be a month or more.

I bring it home, replace it with a salvage yard part.... still no fuel and my old pump works when I apply 12V to it. I am at a loss from this point both fuses in box marked fuel pump are good. any help plz..... and sorry SOOOO long.

thanks Jeff

I'm no mechanic, but I've heard that the fuel filter is a "lifetime" filter that is integral with your fuel pump. That is probably the cause for most of the cost.
