Default Power Steering Pump blows AFTER recall "fix"

Hi there, not sure if anyone can help. My mother's 2011 Journey was finally serviced for the Power Steering recall (they never had the part available - and dealership finally made her an appointment for May - back in December)

They serviced it on Thursday May 25. She racked up less than 100km on the car and less than 72 hours later, the power steering pump blew as did the power steering belt. CAA towed the car back to the dealership.

My mother just called me in tears - the dealership is saying this was purely coincidental and it would cost her $1500 to repair it (but she can get a discount if she waits until Wednesday because it is "seniors day")

Even if it was "coincidental", is this not something that could have been seen when she had it in a few days ago? I have serious doubts that this was just poor timing. She had never had any issues with the Power steering beforehand.

Any advice for where to go from here? What are the chances this was sheer coincidence or does it seem like they are taking an old lady for a ride? Has anyone else had issues with the power steering pump after the recall fix?

Thank you for any and all assistance. I don't know who else to ask or reach out to about this. The dealership is refusing to budge on this issue.

It's impossible to access this without seeing the vehicle.
