Default Journey 2009 2.7V6 RT Transmission noise

So I've noticed something weird. I get a distinctive scraping or groaning noise coming from the transmission. Feels like something is slipping.
Specifically under load and quick acceleration. Or when I've used the higher rev range of the motor. It goes away after a bit but the fact that it's there is cause for concern.

Since my knowledge on automatic transmissions especially this one is quite limited. Is there anything I can check?

Fluid level. Thats about it. Depending on mileage, it might be time for a fluid/filter change. Take it to a shop for a diagnosis.

On that note. I'm not sure as to where exactly I check the transmission fluid level on this car. I can see the filler cap behind the PCM module. But I can't find the dipstick.
Or is this like the 3.6 V6 where you have to drop the pan completely?

So my TCM light came on last night while driving home. Urgh!!! And then this morning I just made it to the dealer before the throttle went haywire and then the traction control light came on.
This is seriously going to hurt my pocket.

So my car has been at the dealer since last week Wednesday. Now they're telling me that the battery needs replacing. Which over here is looking to cost about as much as a new engine.
My question is. My car has been starting fine etc. How would that affect the TCM light? Am I missing something or are they taking me for a ride?

I don't mind paying to have the car fixed. But don't tell me that you'll replace the battery and then see if something else is wrong. WTF!!!!

BTW they're charging me $547.12 to replace the battery. I'm in South Africa so that is 7K in ZAR.
