Default upgraded 2011 journey radio to a 2017 RB5 navigation

Anyone have any idea why a 2017 RB5 navigation radio wouldn't work when I installed it in my 2011 Dodge Journey ? I installed a new 8.4" screen, was 4.3", a new auto climate control panel which they said was needed for the 8.4" screen and a navigation/media radio. The back light would come on but nothing showed on the screen. The volume and tune buttons worked and sound (radio stations) came out of the speakers. I plugged everything in correctly and reinstalled/uninstalled it four times with the same results. I have the anti theft code for the 2017 radio but with out the screen coming on can't put it in. Any ideas ? Thanks !

Default 30 min. Battery disconnect ?

A friend told me that in order for the vehicle to recognize the new radio, screen and climate control I had to disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes. When it is reconnected it will recognize all the modules. Anyone heard of this ? I'm old school auto mechanic and don't understand !
