Default 2012 Journey not shifting out of first

I have a 2012 Journey SXT 3.5, recently it began not upshifting from first gear. I disconnected the negative battery cable at the post on the firewall, that fixed it several times, but doesn't anymore. I see that there's an input and output shaft speed sensor that's supposed to be on the trans somewhere, would a faulty one of these cause this issue? They are cheap enough, I would be money ahead to swap both before taking it to the dealership. I can't find any info as to where they are located on the trans, if I remove the airbox will I have access to them? Any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated, this is our family vehicle and I need to get it back on the road ASAP.

Thank you for any help,

Matt

I would take it to a shop for a proper diagnosis then decide if you can fix it on your own based on the diagnosis.

Taking to a shop is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I spent $60 swapping 2 of the 3 speed sensors on the trans, I'm trying to locate the output shaft sensor and I will replace that too. The local shops don't have very specific diagnostic tools and will do the same thing I'm doing. Our local Dodge dealership has issues with honesty and integrity (long story). I might as well try to fix it myself first and save the money. This is my first Dodge, I am amazed by the lack of information on the net regarding repairing it. Everyone's answer seems to be "Take it to a shop". Is there really no one fixing their own cars?

FIXED! I found 2 speed sensors that are easily accessible when you take off the front left wheel. Total for both was $60. I hope this information will help someone else.
