Default Journey Problems Dashlights flashing

Last week it was pouring rain on the highway, the dash lights started flashing and the speedometer started to jump erratically. We pulled over and let it sit for a few minutes. It was fine. Car doesn't get driven much during the week. Drove a few times around the city. Did another highway trip (dry day) starts doing the same thing. Check engine light came on and stayed on but the dashlights are off and on with and without the warning beep. Car is eating gas like crazy also

The only thing prior to the first time it happened someone hit our side mirror. The mirror was put back on and the wires placed into the door until we can get it replaced. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. The interior lights and headlights flicker like crazy also months prior to this but not on a regular basis and the stereo volume once or twice has gone up and down on its own. So difficult to take in.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the mirror. We've got a 2010 Journey in our family. So, I'm not sure how this might relate as I'm not sure of the year on yours.

Suggest having the entire system scanned for fault codes. The 'Check Engine' light tends to only kick on with engine related and emission items. You might have 'factory' codes stored in the other modules that might give additional clues. There are some code readers on the market for the DIY'er that are very cost effective and will allow the end user to pull all the codes stored and then it's just interpreting what it's telling you, and then doing the detective work to see if it applies.

At this point to me it would sound like water infiltration into one of the modules. Maybe the TIPM... But I'm unsure. A full scan might yield clues. Quick side note: The CEL being 'on' would be one of the first areas I'd check. (Normally engine/drivetrain/emission) Full scan is apt to show up quite a few items/faults. Might have to sift past some un-related items to get to the heart of your problem.

Best I can do. Hopefully others can add their input as well.

Default Update: got car scanned

My Journey is a 2016. We had it scanned. Gave us codes P0573 , C212a.16, C212a.17 and C2101.

I agree that definitely water got into something but it has rained before and nothing like this has happened UNTIL the mirror got damaged. I read on other forums that if a mirror is damaged it can cause a check engine light due to damaged wires. So could that be a possibility especially if the wires weren't covered or protected. Or is it just coincidental?

Usually, I would say not related. But these newer cars/trucks have everything interconnected to absurdity. The module that monitors (for lack of a better word) the mirror(s) communicates with all the other modules via the network. If that 'module' is getting bad data, that might be enough to create a bit of havoc with other modules. The mirror would need to be fixed and wired correctly regardless. That might be enough to set the rest of the system back to 'normal'.

Thanks. Hopefully once we get this fixed it will reset. Will keep fellow Journey owners posted.
