Horn honks randomly now...time for hard reset?
Well the 2010 2.4 has started honking the horn randomly. Pulled the fuses and I still hear relay click that seems to be from the relays inside the TIPM. but I didnt have anyone to work the steering wheel so I could feel where the clicks are from. Car still runs good but from the stories shutdown while driving may happen. So I am going to do a hard reset and contact cleaner the TIPM but should I just go for the rebuild I'm sure that I can get it to go back together after cleaning and seeing if theres any obviously fried components. I could send it out for a $250 rebuild but I dont want to spend money if I have to take a loss on this thing. Going to the Dodge stealership and seeing if they can run it on their diagnostics for free to give me more info to go on other than they can fix it for 800 or some such crap. Any input welcome as always. I've done everything recommended so far I need to get to the starter so I have to pull out the intake plastics but it starts as soon as voltage inside can is over 11v. Its always 12.4 at the jump points but its not getting to the starter unless its 11.9 or above. What a great car this is! Any input appreciated.
Well the $800-$900 range is for the dealership probably to install a re-manufactured TIPM. Can't source a new one, so they have rebuilt ones.
The horn going off at random has also plagued ours to the point both the fuses in ours are removed. For inspection (if we can work out the overheating issue) I'll rig up an external horn.
Usually it's either a short in the clock spring/steering column so it thinks someones hitting the horn. But also could be a bad TIPM as that's a common issue that IMO Dodge should have some service information available. One thing- If this seems to only happen when the Journey is parked and the security system is 'on'- Might be the alarm. Journeys have been known to have issues with the under hood switch. (it tells the module if the hood is open while the alarm is engaged- It also prevents the remote start from functioning)
