Default 2011 Journey Transmission Fluid Level Check Using Oil Dipstick...

Question for folks who know how to check their transmission fluid level using the oil dipstick.

I've scored the back side of the oil dipstick in the appropriate places to show "Min" and "Max" transmission fluid levels. HOWEVER...

Upon removing the "Dealer Use Only" cap from the transmission, then inserting the oil dipstick, there's a sticky spot where the dipstick hangs and stops. Upon reading from that depth it would appear the fluid level is too low as there's no fluid on the dipstick. BUT...

If I press just a little bit harder, the dipstick continues on down about another 5 inches. Upon reading from THAT depth, it would appear the fluid level is overfilled. So my question is...

EXACTLY how far in should the oil dipstick be inserted? I considered the possibility that the first "stop" was hitting the bottom of the transmission pan, and the second "stop" was after pushing the oil dipstick hard enough for it to kinda slide and bend a little, allowing for a little more insertion until it hit something else and stopped... but I really hate to make assumptions. And at this point, being a 2011 (15 years old) with 160,000 miles, it's entirely possible it's leaked enough to be low, and it's entirely possible someone has overfilled it, so the actual amount on the dipstick isn't much of a clue.

The best answer I'm hoping for is someone telling me the distance from the "Dealer Use Only" cap to the bottom of the dipstick (when properly inserted) is "X" inches. That would tell me exactly how far I should insert the oil dipstick... whether that be the first "stop" or the second.

I'm aware there's multiple sources for aftermarket transmission dipsticks... but our goal is to use the oil dipstick instead. Anyone with first-hand knowledge care to share what you know?

SINCERE THANKS in Advance folks!! :-)
