Default Cruise Control Question

When cruise control is on and you are going down a steep hill where the car will exceed the cruise setting it will downshift to help hold the speed constant. Is there anyway to deactivate this feature as it is rather annoying on hilly country roads?

I believe if you tap the brake the cc will disengage and when you are ready hit resume on the cc.

Yes that will disengage the cruise but by then it is already downshifted to 3rd. Wants to downshift when the speed is about 2-3 mph over the set speed. With some of the hilly roads around here you would be going back and forth every minute. I would rather just have the speed go up 10 mph on the downhill and correct it's self on the next up hill. I can see the use for this on the interstate in Virgina with long hills where your foot may be on the brake to keep the speed down but it is bit of a nuisance on the small hills. Would be nice if this can be optionally changed. Probably takes a small bite out of the gas milage with the free speed normally available on the down grades.

I have had this happen and I just hit the shifter to the right and it shifted back into 5th gear.

I don't have the RT so that isn't an option for me. But I expect to get a survey call/letter from Chrysler shortly and will ask if it can be programmed out.

I understand your issue, however think of the folks who set their CC at 5-7MPH over the limit (fast enough to keep up with traffic but slow enough for the guy's & gal's in blue to leave you alone) then on a down hill stretch you pick up the extra 10 and now your going 17 over, the ticket for that in my state is almost $300.00, who's now at fault? NOT YOU...OH NO IT'S THE CAR. Would DC now pay the ticket, I don't think so...

I agree but it would be nice to make it optional for those of us that want to make this decision ourselves rather than the computer. Never owned a vehicle that had this feature is it on any other makes?

If you have the RT, and the hills are that steep, just drive it in lower gear ie/ 4th instead of 5th. The only time I use 5th is on freeway or highway with speed over 50 mph for some distance. In town/ city traffic a lot of times I even select 3rd so I have a little more pickup without having to hit kickdown.
