Default magnum w/gate release button

a small mod to my magnum... i added the interior rear gate release button. i swapped in the panel and button from a charger.
this is a direct fit and the factory wire harness is even there (just not used for some reason).

once the switch was added, i needed a small lift in the gate to get past the latch. i installed these small exhaust manifold springs.
these work perfectly. it pops the gate open about 4", which is enough to clear the latch.

Wow, that is a great idea. I may have to look into trying this myself.

Without the added springs , the gate wouldn`t lift up?

without the springs, the gate won't pop open at all (maybe 1/4" open). it needs to pop open at least 2" to get past the latch. that is why
the springs are needed. the dash button only moves the gate handle solenoid for 1 second. if the gate isn't up past the latch in that time, it will still be latched.

one other thing, if you're not using a charger cluster like i am, you will also need to add a 4.7 ohm resistor to the dash button.

Very nice! So is this now the only means of opening the hatch? What about the rear manual latch release handle?

I'd like to do this to my mag. Can you list the part numbers for the charger panel/button. And supply some info on where to get those springs.

Thanks,
Bill

i don't have any part numbers. i got the panel with the switch from a wrecked charger. it just happened to have the same color panel like mine.
the springs are from auto zone's help parts. you know those misc parts called HELP. the help package said the springs are exhaust manifold stud springs. i think the help number was 3080.

For the release button, someone on another forum wrote up 'How To' instructions so the button is moved above/next to the license plate light:

So you can have a 'smooth' tail and have the button in the dash:

I Was able to locate a part number for the charger button, but not the entire panel. I think I would rather go with the panal just for the sake of not having to cut a hole for the button. If anyone has had luck locating the panal part number please post it here, either way here is the OEM part number for the button 4760847AC

Hope this helps.
