Default Gas Mileage

I am the type of driver that usually starts looking for a gas station when my tank gets down to half full.

But the other day, I spent most of the day in the car, running errands all day. Not too bad, when you are driving a Magnum RT.

While the gas gauge was getting pretty low, as in near empty, I had one last chore to do. I had to get to my son's doctor, to pick up some medicine, before the office closed. So I decided not to stop and get gas, but continue driving - since my car has the low fuel warning and I wanted to see if it worked.

Just as I pulled into the doctor's parking lot, that little gas symbol light came on. I filled up the tank on my way home, luckily there was a gas station just a few blocks away from the doctor.

Got almost 350 miles and car took 16.3 gallons of gas.

That's about 22 miles per gallon, not too bad, considering I like to floor the gas pedal - to hear the sound of the cold air intake and Flowmasters.

The warning light does work!

I start to look just before I get to 1/4 tank and fill up asap. Don't like taking the chance that I will run out of gas. I also don't like having the engin suck up the stuff at the bottom of the tank. Even though that they are new you will still get stuff on the bottom of the tank.

I guess when the light goes off you have about 2.5 gallons left. About 50 miles or so. This is good to know!

Default RE: Gas Mileage

My old 54' Mercury (my second car) was always running out of gas, as the gas gauge was busted. I used to carry a long thin stick, to measure how much gas I had in the tank. Even then, I would still run dry on occasion.

The good old days.
