Living here in Florida means I don't use my rear defogger, so I have never had a problem. I seldom turn on the radio anyway, would rather listen to my Flowmasters.
It sounds like the rear antenna module (which also acts as the defroster) is malfunctioning. Should be an easy fix, although you may have to wait for it to be ordered.
There is a TSB for that problem - it's TSB# 08-032-04 dated September 22, 2004.
Basically it describes the problem as being casued by a defective or broken trace in the rear window defroster. The dealer should repair the broken trace or replace the window altogether.
Kinda, you have several lines running in the back glass, the ones on the top are the antenna (assuming no Sirrus radio) and the lower ones are the defroster. All the lines run into a module that turns the wiring into coax for radio reception purposes. I am not technically inclined enough to explain exactly how the conversion takes place (it's true-I don't know EVERYTHING, can you beleive it).
