Default New to the forums, please help

I've read just about all of the topics pertaining to all of the Magnums.
I have just recently gotten interested in upgrading, so to speak, my Magnum.

I have a 2006 3.5L black Magnum.

Some things i'm looking to have done are:

Install 20" American Racing Torq-Thrust M Shelby Chrome Rims
Install stock GPS Nav system
Install some "cool" headlights and tail lights
Install new pedals
Install a new shifter
and Finally, replace my hood with a RKSport style hood.

Now i have read many many many problems with the RKSport hood on a 2006 magnum and it not fitting properly. Also that the company can be very flakey.
But that is the style of hood I want, I LOVE the design, it is by far the best out of all of the options out there (no offense to those who like the other styles)

Can Anyone help me out with some info about this hood and possible problems?
Forgive me as I am not very car savvy so in most cases I will have no idea what you are talking about.

Thank you very much in advance, and let me just sa that I am EXTREMLY envious of all of the work you have done on your Magnums. they look incredible

I don't know about the issues other's may have had but the intall and prep of the hood is the key. I had mine done for me by 402Motoring in New Jersey and it has been trouble free from the day I picked it up. RK even delayed the delivery of my hood because they were not happy with the cast to make it so they remade the cast. I can't complain; SEE:

thats an incredible look on that car, very cool.

So I suppose I would just go to a body shop and hopefully they'll know what to do?
For someone like me who doesnt know much about body work, and has never had anything done to his car, I'm not entirely sure how to approach this hood situation.

My grandfather has 2 dodge dealerships so I suppose I could try and get them to do it there, or should I go to a shop specifically for Body work?

Also I noticed you got your hood painted, I was planning on trying to match the hood color to the body color without having to paint anything. Do you know how accurate the paint job is on the hoods compared to the factory paint on the magnum?

I was in the exact same boat as you were, new to car mods, not really ever been a "car" guy.
I wanted the RKsport hood and also did'nt know where to go or who to see about getting it installed and painted.
I fell in love with the Magnum on first site and from there the mod bug took over me.

As Styrkker said ...prep is the key to a good final finish. That's were maybe shopping around to different body shops, maybe shops that do custom work as opposed to damage repair and insurance work.
Don't get me wrong tho. I had mine done from a local shop that primarily did body repair work. I visited their shop, got the owner to give me a tour of their facility. Between the owners apparent good character and the extreme cleanliness of the shop I was sold on them. I don't want to say that I got lucky with them. I'd like to think that's how business standards should be. Don't be afraid to ask questions and voice your concerns and reservations.
Once I was comforatble with the shopI ordered the hood and had it delivered directly to the body shop.
They did an initial inspection of the hood on delivery. They should use their better judgement on theshipped condition. If the hood was too damaged during shippingthey probably should not take delivery of it.
After they received it they called me and I went down and did my own inspection on the delivered condition. Work closely with the shop, make sure they keep you in the loop on all issuesno matter how small.Ialso called RKsport and spoke with their sales guy and voiced all of my concerns with him. Keep his number close and call him if any issues arise. They werevery goodabout that.

Short of all of that, if you have the dollars to spend then I say go for it. I have'nt had any issues with my RKsport hood and I love the hell out of it. Good luck. Modding is very addictive.

great, thanks so much.

What year Magnum do you have?

My main concern is that I have gone to the RKSport Website and the only hood they have is for 2005. I assume that no matter what, if I find a good body shop, even if it is a 2005 hood they should be able to work with it.

I also assume i'll need to get it painted? Or were you able to buy a white hood and match the paint on the body?

Sorry again for all of the questions, as all of you have been through and understand, it is a lot of money, and I would hate to just throw it away.

I have a 2005 RT model. I can't really speak for models after mine. There really was'nt that much difference in the body style from 05 to 06 tho. I would think there should'nt be any issues. I am sure they have sold many to other 06 owners as well.
Call RKsport and speak directly to someone about your concerns. Ask him all of those questions regarding fitment, shipping, any return policies and so forth.
I don't believe that they color match them. The shop will do all of the prep work and paint. Make sure that the shop has experienced fiberglass people who can to good fiberglass work.
it is a lot of money, and I would hate to just throw it away.
Voice that to the RKsport sales guy and ask question regarding any guarantees, warranty, and if all else fails, return policy before you give them any money. You might even have them send you something in writing first.

Well I've slept on it, and I have decided that I want the hood. I've had tons of feedback ragarding this with an overwhelming NO from everyone. When it boils down to it, it is my car and my choices.

Out of curiousity, to see how it looks, does anyone have a pic of a black magnum with that hood?? preferably with racing stripes (as I'll be putting them on my car).

Thanks for all of your input once again!
