check engine light - passing inspection?
My check engine light is off and on.
If it's off, I can get it on by accelerating at rpms higher than 4.5k.
Sometimes it just comes on. Most of the time it is off. I went into a dodge dealership and they said that it would be a $500 repair to replace some component in my exhaust system (oxygen handling component? - they said that i wouldn't die if I drove the car like that, but that I would not be able to pass inspection with my check engine light on)
Here's the thing, my car still runs fine and gets good gas mileage...i'm just confused by the fact that the light doesn't stay on consistently.
If I get to the state inspection place when the light is off, is there a chance that ill pass inspection? (this is my first time doing this) Do their machines check the logs? Is there a log that is kept? I read an old thread posted here about getting a check engine code from the "logs" by doing some sort of fancy start/on key turning combination.
any advice?

Don't know for sure but it sounds like a bad TPS sensor (throttle position sensor)?
Are you out of warranty already? 3/36, 5/60 or 7/70 extended.
Unless this problem effects your vehicle's exhaust emission level, I've never heard of failing a vehicle because of a "Check Engine" light. [&:]
On some vehicles, the "Check Engine"indicator isalso a reminderto change the oil.
I'd check your current State Inspection Laws. Call another licensed inspection garage and start asking questions. I think you'll be surprised.
Good Luck!

well as they say youre better safe than sorry. If you're drivind around with an expired inspection cause you did not pass and get pulled over then youre screwed[:@] and its better in my eyes to bite the bullet now and have all your bases covered rather than paying the hefty fine if you get pulled over
