Default gear swap?

i've read in car & driver that the srt8 will get a "shorter final-drive ratio borrowed from the AWD version of the 300C." if so, would it be possible to exchange the awd final gear into our r/t?

i'm pretty ignorant when it comes to trans/gears/etc...so please bare with me.
from what i understand, the higher the axle ratio the better the acceleration...and the lower the better the mileage.

the awd is listed at 3.07 axle ratio and the 2wd is listed at 2.82. is a gear swap possible?

if so, what other adjustments would be required? odometer?
thanks for any info.

It should work, have to wait until the SRT parts catalog is out to see if they share the same carrier.

It would not be worth the cost to go from a 2:82 to a 3:07 gear ratio.

You would hardly notice the difference in performance.

The gain would be small, very small.

Save your money for something better.

If you got the parts for free and knew how to do the swap yourself, then I would go for it.

A 3:43 gear would be sweet.

I'm another Impala SS guy with a Magnum, Mine was a 96. I always felt that the 3.73 gear was perfect for the SS. With the lower first gear in the Magnum a 3:21 would put us right there.
