Default REAR DIFFERENTIAL OPTIONS?

Does anyone know any aftermarket options to lower the rear end gear ratio?

I have a Magnum R/T which is 2.82:1 stock. Ideally I think I want something around 3.4:1. A mechanic at a Dodge dealer told me a 3.62:1 is available but I haven't been able to verify. With enough traction I thinka 3.62would make the Magnum a rocket off the line...The R/T motor has tons of torque but it drops off the cliff below 3,000 RPM.

I suppose the SRT 3.02:1 rear would probablyfit but don't think it is a big enough percentage change (about 7%) to warrant the expense...On the other hand I changed from a 28" to 29" rear tire (3.6% bigger) and this made the car noticeably slower off the line...maybe .2-.4 seconds slower to 30 mph (depending on circumstances) according to Gtech...so maybe it would be worth it....any thoughts?

Thanks for your help.

the 3.64 was used on the very early 300s with the V6. the gears are smaller and won't work on your R/T. also, the srt gears are too big to fit in your R/T. another problem is the programming. there is nothing available to make the gear change work. the car will go into limp mode after the gear change without programming.

maybe in a few months there will be gears and programming. i have been waiting almost 3 years for this. i want 3.42 gears for my R/T.

3:42 is perfect. Anything over that will significantly decrease mileage altogether. The 3:42 would provide great off the line performance and still allow a high end speed. A 3:55 or better will have your engine running high RPM, probably enough to cancel out the program for the engine cylinder use decrease on the highway (forget the name of the system). 3:42 might still allow low enough RPM for the system to work and probably give all anyone is looking for in power AND top end. I'm sure mods are just around the corner. This car is headed for more muscle car mods not far down the road.

The AWD RT'shave 3.07 gears...no idea if the gears are of compatable size, but do know the rear ends have different widths, hence the incompatable wheels between the AWD and RWD
