POWER BEING ROBBED FROM MAGNUM
WHATS UP GUYS
here is just a post of some magnum knowledge.
i am in the car audio industry and i can tell you power means so much to a car.
the factory power layout is nonsence
standard power layout of the magnum among others is this
battery, 0 guage wire runs from the battery to the inside firewall. thru a post to the outside of the firewall splits 2 two 8 guage wires which one goes to the alternator. and the other one goes to the front fuse panel. this is where the robbing comes into place.
the power wire comming from the alternator is standard 8 guage wire in most vehicles where the battery is located in the front of the car. but not common in vehicles when the battery is in the back. why?
ok well a fix and results
from the post on the firewall. engine side behind plasic wheel shrowd using 0 guage wire extend the 0 already present.
you also need a 0 x 0 x 0 guage distribution block small. take o guage from the post and run it to the distribution block on the output run a 4 guage wire in addition to the 8 guage already present to the fuse block and the other output run directly to the alternator possitive post. cable tie the wires out of harms way and such. i loomned them as well.
next upgrade the ground wire from the engine to the ground post . add to the current wires is what i did .
now move to the back of the car. upgrade or add to the ground wire from the battery to the chassis the ground is just as important as the possitive wire. in my car i ran a 0 gauge wire from the battery to the actual chassis out side underneath the car. accomplished this by drilling a hole. thru the metal just behind the bumper. and welded a bolt the frame than made connection( welding is not requried tapping screws will be fine)
also i upgraded the power wire from the battery to the rear fuse block . if i can load the pictures you will see the layout . done. not being done sorry .
ps i use kintetik dry cell high current batteries .
without having the special battery many things have changed
engine starts faster. stronger. lights are brighter
voltage is the same measuring from teh alt then at the battery.
amperage demand is regulated better by alternator when a demand from aftermarket accessories are present. if you search the web doing this upgrade us called upgrading the BIG THREE. the cost i used is about 50 bucks in wire terminals etc. and about 2-3 hours of labor involved to remove plastic shrowd to access possitive terminal post. and such.
most people can do this upgrade some special tools are required but can be gotten from sears etc. such things like crimpers. (klien) and stripers. cable tires and such all possible.

basically all you are doing is upgrading the wire that has been installed via factory... better wire means better current flow which results to better amperage and better ability to handle certain aftermarket systems.
any one who knows what the big three is will tell you how much it is a benifit .
any questions post away.
ps i also did a 0 guage upgrade for the components in my 06 durango what a difference one of the most noticabloe is the increas in pick up. it might be my imagination but the truck wants to accelerate faster after the upgrade. and why not its logical when all key components are electrical.
