Default CRANKSHAFT RATING

Can anyone tell me what journal size and/or what HP rating (specify RW or crank) the stock cast RT crankshaft is good for?

I am assuming this is the weakest link but if the pistons or connecting rods are I would appreciate knowing about that as well. I seem to remember reading about broken half-shafts as well...

Long term plan is to add one of the new twin screw i-charger superchargers running 6-7 psi. This should put me around 500 RWHP and am wondering what (if anything) is marginal at this power level.

Thanks

T 91 Wheeler,
You will need to replace the pistons first. That is your weakest link in the 5.7 Hemi. I heard multiple stories of putting holes in pistons with the Super Chargers. Last check there was only one guy who had a Super Charger that didn't put holes in his pistons, because he didn't give it any more than half thottle. What fun is that? I put a hole in Piston #6 at 60,000 miles. Only mod was removing the Suitcase muffler. Not much of a mod... Besides, once you take the engine apart for the pistons, mine as well do everything while it is on the Stand. Crank, Pistons, Arms, Heads, Cam... Next time my engine goes it will not be under warranty and that is when I will re-build... But I will also be looking to upgrade the Transmission and rear end as well...

To answer your question, I have no idea what the Crank is rated for...

Thanks for info. I wonder if this problem had more to do with running too lean (?). A few of the kits utilize aux. injectors. The gas may not get distributed properly so one or more cylinders run lean. Also, without proper tuning the entire engine can run lean. When I added my mild cam I needed to add 15% fuel with Diablosport. I can only imagine what might happen with a supercharger without good tuning...

Anyway, do you know where to find forged pistons and/or connecting rods for the 5.7? Mopar supercenter has a 5.7 forged crank but only forged pistons and rods for strokers based off of 6.1. I guess the pistonsmight work for non-stroked 6.1 as well (?)

I agree to go ahead and get all forged internals, then you couldpresumably run more than the standard 6-7 psi every kit mentions.

Do you know of any transmission or rear end up grades besides Quaife limited slip?

Thanks

T 91 Wheeler,
No, I don't have any sources off the top of my head, but I will post if I find out anything. There will be a huge LX Meet and Greet this Saturday at the El Toro Marine Base, with a Challenger rumored to appear! If there are any booths selling cool aftermarket parts, I will grab a card and post it. But on a side note, all the 6.1 engine is, is a bored 5.7 block. One of the only reasons I didn't go SRT. I already have that engine and will make it a 6.1 after the warrantied engine fails. I didn't think there would be much room for improvement with a failed 6.1... I don't know how much more you could bore this block. So... You may be able to buy the 6.1 parts and use them on a bored 5.7. Just a thought...
