That's what I needed to know...thanks for the advice. I'll be heading back there today...maybe I'll mention something about their supposed 5 star rating!

I got my oil changed for free (of course) after I asked them why they used 5w-30. They were very apologetic about it and showed me that their computer shows that the Magnum RT takes 5w-30. After they did some digging and talked with one of their senior mechanics, they realized that it was an error and are updating it to reflect that it should take the 5w-20. I feel better now

I wonder why Dodge spent all that money to have big yellow letters put on the
oil filler cap..... Glad you got it taken care of....

Not sure what computer they are talking about but the DCX web site that all dealers are required to use for tech information makes it very clear to use 5W-20. Glad you got them straightened out.

I read somewhere that Mobil 1 5w-30 is on the lower side of the viscosity spectrum. That's probably why it works in the RT. But other 5w-30 brands may not.
But the safe bet is to use 5w-20. I don't trust dealers so I do my own oil changes.

Mobil One also comes in 0-20 and is the recommended oil for cars requiring 5-20.

Probably somebody got their signals crossed or they were just having a bad day. Without the MDS system, the 5W-30 is the recommended oil for the 5.7 Hemi, as in the case of my '03 Ram. Still not a good situation, but I can see how it might happen....... by the way, with the 5W-20 did your engine response smooth out?

Any dealer selling LX platform cars knows that all 5.7's get 5w-20. They are just using bulk oil to be cheap.

Several things happened. I got my smooth highway performance back, and my mileage came back up to normal again. Amazing what happens when the car is treated the way it should be!
