Hi,

I have an 05 SXT RWD with the 17" factory rims. The lug nuts on this vehicle swell making it impossible to get the wrench on. The cost of replacement nuts here in SE Ontario is ~10$/nut. The thread, as mentioned in an earlier post, is M14-1.5, however, the taper that I measure on one of my old lug nuts is approx 66 degrees. The standard taper on all available nuts is 60 degrees. That is why you won't find a replacement nut. It seems that Dodge really cornered the market on this.

Paul

Ok, now I went to the lab and actually measured the cone angle on the nut, and it measures 60 degrees, so I am not sure what the issue is!

I just paid $150 to replace all the lug nuts on my 05 magnum SXT because I needed to put my snow tires on. In previous years I have paid for maybe 4 lug nuts each year. This is INSANE in my mind. What if I have a flat somewhere wherever and the supplied wrench won't fit on the nut? Will DOdge come to the rescue at no charge? Why am I refused the ability to switch over my own tires from winter to summer and visa versa because some bone head manufacturing design engineer specified this innsanely stupid design? I am a design engineer and there is no excuse for this. A person should have ability to change their own tires. DOes anyone agree out there? I plan to take this issue afar as I can and I look for your support. $150 to mount the snows how about another $150 to mount the summer tires? Is this not INSANE!!!!!

Oh yea, I totally agree. It would have been a simple, no brainer fix if they just would have used a Base Lug Nut that would fit an existing Wrench Size, be it Metric or Standard... But NOOOO.... They used a Chrome Cap piece that fits a Wrench, but once the sub-par Chrome Cap comes off, you are left with a Lug Nut that has no existing Wrench Size. I figured that Dodge would at least have a unique wrench for these, but no... The service guy was pissed when I went in for an Oil Change with the Free Tire Rotaion Coupon, ranting at me about how whoever installed my tires really messed up. It is a design flaw... The way I see it, Dodge sells so many Chargers and Magnums with the after-market Rims on them, so they can have a stash of Stock Lug Nuts, because they have to replace the ones for free that their Techs damage... Also, it is funny how they went up in price when they started to fail, from $3 a piece to $8 a piece, seems to me the price should have dropped to about $1 a piece because people would be buying a new set every year. I currently have a set of Chevy Truck Lug Nuts on my car now... All for free, by the Cool guys at Super Autobachs that installed my new tires, because they could see the problem and were stunned by the stupidity of the design...
