Default Question on Airbag lights (does it re-occur)

Greetings all. I have a new '05 Magnum R/T and love it!! Off the showroom floor thouygh I had an issue with the airbag light - standard passenger seat out of calibration - no biggie - this time.

Folks that have had this problem before - has it re-occured? Is there a backyard way of calibrating it?

thanks all!!

John

I found that I cannot lay my briefcase or anything in the passenger seat while driving. The computer thinks it's a small child, disables the passenger air bag and the light comes on.
I first thought it was a short.
It's surprising how often we, or at least I put something in the passenger seat. Something from the store or whatever. If ya do, get use to the light.
I've just started putting my stuff on the floorboard.

When installing the stereo system, I removed the passenger seat to run the wires under the rug. And of course the passenger side air bag stayed on after I reinstalled it. All it took was a trip to the dealer and about 45 min. There are some weights that they have to use to calibrate the seat. I wish they would have just put in an on/off switch like they did on the Ram. But I guess some people have forgotten to turn it on and gotten into an accident and not had it deploy when there was a passenger. It has been about 3 months since the re-calibration and no problems. I had a thread in here, where Dodgemech explained the whole process. Gotta love the age of computerized cars.

Digitalbola,
Mine came on once, but not since. However, I was on a long trip when mine came on, and I have not been on another long trip since. That's my info...

The recalibration process is not terribly difficult however it is extremely important that it only be done by the dealer. We have special weights made just for this; they are not only an exact weight but also an exact shape and size.

It is totally normal for the airbag light to do all sorts of goofy things if you set stuff on the seat. Depends on size and weight, whether or not the seat belt is secured, how tight it is secured....lots of variables. The important thing is that when nothing is in the seat and the belt is unbuckled that the light comes on when you start the car for a bulb check and then stays off afterwards until you change something (add weight or buckle belt).

Thanks all. I seems to be doing well now and I am learning not to put stuff in the seat. It is kinda funny, when I bought the car the light was fine. Then as was leaving the sales manager (who was 300+ pounds) "hopped" in the passenger side to show me the GPS and bingo I had the ight aftrerwards. After everything I read here I figure that was the reason. All the service folks were asking if I had set stuff in the seat and all I could think was "No.... It was not me... it was the @#$! sales guy!! Teach him how to sit down right!"

Cheers all aand thanks for an excellent forum.

John

If I saw that 300 pounder reaching for the door handle, I would have immediately locked the door. He probably broke the sensor in the seat.
