2006 Magnum AWD w/ nivomats very rough ride - is this normal?
Hi all, newbie to the forum just bought my wife a 06 AWD magnum this summer and so far we really like it. Long story short I find the rear suspension to be very rough compared to any vehicle we have owned in the past and even rougher than my WJ jeep rides.
Basically the car rides ok on smooth rodes but feels like it "bottoms out" over train tracks, light dips in the road and even creeping over speed bumps. When you drive over a set of tracks at 35 mph the car goes down initially then up and when it goes after the bump it is very rough and sharp. Almost feels liek it is totally bottoming out and very very stiff. Not sure if this in how the 18" low pro wheels and tires ride with this style of suspension or not? Honestly feels like I have about 2" maximum of rear suspension travel at the most.
Anyways I did some research and crawled under the car to find out it is equipped with the Sachs nivomat style of auto load leveling shocks. They are $350 a piece form my local dealer so i really don't feel like spending that kinda money if there is nothing wrong with the old ones. I see no signs of leaks on the current ones but they do have about 55,000 miles in them. It may be normal riding but i honestly think it is way rougher than any newer vehicle should be. Anyway this looks like the place to ask a simple question like this so hopefully someone here has some input on my issue. Thanks look forward to some good feedback from other owners
