occasionally wont shift out of park
Hey guys, I have a 05 Magnum that I have owned for 3 or 4 years. Here lately occasionally it wont shift out of park. It might be a coincidence but sometimes when it is acting up you can pull the park brake lever and it will shift. I searched this forum but all I can find is the spring being broke off of the pink thingy. I took it apart far enough to know for sure the spring is not broke. Is the little button on the side of the shifter the culprit or is there a switch at the brake pedal I should look at? I am out of town on vacation and any help from the possibility of a strange dealer or towing service would be forever appreciated.
He Bud,
Be vewwy vewwy cayful. This same problem left me stuck in a bay at the tire shop for 90 minutes, killing their business and boiling my brain. The shifter is a piece of doodie. It's all plastic. Make sure you park somewhere where you can easily hook a tow truck, or get it to a dealer quickly. They'll charge a lot to replace it (if that's what it needs), but a call to Chrysler Customer Care will get a lot of that back for you, as they are well aware of the problem (just be nice, don't lose your cool, the CSR didn't make that junk). There were two maggies in the dealer the same day, same problem when the tow truck dropped mine off at the dealer.
If you've already tried the over-rides as you described, that's all you can do. I wouldn't fool around with it unless you are real good at this stuff - in which case, go buy a shifter console assembly and install. Then send it and the receipt to Chrysler after calling them for an RMA of some sort.
My posts and solutions offered may still be available if you search for my handle : cpmgrp
Good luck.
