Oil Change Interval

This is going to sound dumb - I even feel dumb asking it, but here goes. I have driven only a few hundred miles since my last oil change (92,xxx miles on the odo). However that was in Nov 2011. So the 3-month anniversary is coming up. Do I go by the miles (some say 3,000 some 5,000)? Or the elapsed time?

Thanks for responding, I've found this forum to be a very important source of information since I bought my Maggie R/T brand new in 2005. But I notice my "join date" changed today when I changed my email address.

NamJock,

I assume you mean Nov of 2012? If 2011 was the last oil change I would change it soon. If it was 3 months ago and only a few hundred miles, waiting until the 6 month mark should have no ill effects unless you are going to put many thousands of miles on it before the next three months are up.

The 3month part of Oil Change interval is really meant for ppl who drive in the City stop and Go traffic. Like a Taxi Cab in NYC, even if they only registered 1000 miles on their Odometer, but their Engine Operation hours are way longer than someone who drove 5000 miles on the highway.
Hence the 3 month interval part comes in. Look at Post Office fleet vehicle, their 20k mile cars are more beat up than normally driven cars with 100k miles.

If you don't do A LOT of stop and go driving, I would take Dodgecares advise and wait few more month.

Engine oil are not like food with an expiration date. But they wear out over engine operation time.
