Angry Possible Cluster F*#k

I have a 05 Dodge Magnum. The car was purchased 2 months ago. a week later we discovered that the gas hand, speedometer and so on did not work. the car lot checked it out and told us the cluster needed to be replaced. the car showed 92,000 miles on the odometer, after the lot replaced the cluster the odometer now showed around 174,000 miles and my wife was told to bring it back so they can fix the mileage, which they knew would error. Having no knowlegde of auto mechanics this set off no alarms but my gut still wanted me to look into it a bit. i first checked the contract, which to my surprise had 127,000 miles listed, which contradicted what showed on the dash at time of purchase. so this brings me to my questions.

1. Do i have a reason to believe there is foul play at hand?
2. If there is foul play, then what do i or can i do about it?

It is illegal to temper with Odometer in car. so bring it back, and tell them to fix it. And Cluster mileage are NOT programmable. When you order them new thru the dealer, you need to tell Chrysler what's the current mileage, and they will program it from the factory and send it to you.

the cluster obviously was replaced with a used cluster, simply because it now reads 173k miles.

Well, if your dealer are willing to replace it with another one that shows a closer Odo reading to the actual mileage your car has, then it really shouldn't be a problem.

It might be just an honest mistake.
