Default Road trip results with minor problem

Just returned from a 2500 mile road trip from southern california to eastern washington and wanted to share the experience. Maggie had less than 1700 miles when we left for the trip. The route was I-5 north over Tejon Pass, up the central valley into the Shastas. Then catch hightway 97 through central oregon to I-84. Then east to highway 395 north, and finally I-90 into Spokane. The reason I share all this is to help understand what we dealt with. Plenty of mountain passes.

Well anyway the mileage results are pretty good I think. Overall I averaged 21mpg over the 2500 mile route. The best mileage was through oregon on the 97 with a posted limit of 55. I averaged 5 over on all routes. So at 60 I was running 25 mpg. Climbing out of the central valley and onto the high desert plateau of central oregon I averaged about 19 at an average between 60 and 70, depend if I was on the interstate or a state highway. Heading back south I averaged about 22 mpg. The mileage for the trip I felt was good as Maggie was laoded with 2 adults and about 400 pounds of luggage.

May have had better mileage except for one problem. Somewhere south of Redding, CA (right before the Shastas) the clutch on the A/C locked up (found out later) and the A/C was running all the time the engine was. Had no heat or ventilation as the whole system froze up. Had to drive with windows craked to keep windsheild from fogging up. As anyone knows in the northen tier states, it is a little cool at night. We were on a straight drive through. Left at 9pm and arrived at midnite. So it was cold in the car. Good thing we had seat warmers to help out. A new compressor in Spokane, weekend campout with dad and bro-in-law and back south.

This is a great riding car ands only just 4200 on the odo now. I know that after 24 hours behind the wheel both ways. Best speed was 120 passing 6 trucks along the 97. Boy is great to have a little hp driving the wheels.
