kowalcs-Your may be right, its true in the old days 20-30 years ago and at many body shops now days. The paint is /was layed on thicker than OEM.
I'm not worried much ask me in May how it looks. It needs protecting from the salts, and other corrosives, IMO, that will etch into the finish. You don't want to know about me clay barring the hood! I have 3-4 coats of wax on now and will add more if we get warm weather in Jan-Feb.
Take a good look under your car- You'll see rust already on untreated parts front and rear.
Mine was built 11-05 . Time will tell , I did it all by hand (waxon-waxoff) and I'm still sore.lol
