When you refer to "auto" mode, what dial are you referring to. The one on the right which dictates where the air comes out or on the fan dial? I really should read my manual to fully understand. I think I have read my entire owner's manual, except for the climate control part. Thanks for all of your input.

There is an "auto" for the temperature and air outlets (heating mode is typically at your feet, cooling mode is from the dash vents, and the a/c compressor runs as needed for dehumidfication) and on the left dial there is an "auto" for the fan speed modes (Low speed modulation or High speed modulation).
The farther you are away from your dial setpoint it will put you into full heating, full cooling or any where in between depending on your cabin conditions.
When your not in "auto" it will operate as the older cars do.

Better yet, do what I did, move to Florida.

No problems with a cold car here.

Yes, my wife loves the heated seats................go figure.

Ok, I finally read my manual and now I think I understand. I should have done that a long time ago! It looks like I can't set the temp of the air coming out of the vents. The temp coming out of the vents is based on what temperature I want the cabin to be (as set by the temp controls). There are four modes of operation:

Full Automatic Operation
Blower Preferred Automatic
Mode Preferred Automatic
Blower and Mode Preferred Automatic

Under all four modes the Air Temperature Control is automatic.
