Default Dual climate control issue

I was wondering if anyone has been having the same issue I am with my dual climate control system. The temperature of the air coming out of the vents is rarely consistent with the setting on the dial. Let me explain an example. When I first get in the car in the morning, I will crank both settings up to the maximum temperature. As the car warms up and the heat coming out of the vents becomes too intense, I turn it down to half or around 72 on the dial. However, the temp of the air coming out of the vents is still extremely hot. In order for it to get cooler, I have to turn it all the way down and then back up to my desired temp. The reverse is true also. If I have the controls on the lowest temp setting and then turn it up, it will stay at the low setting until I crank it all the way up and then back down. Is anyone else having this issue? It's very annoying. At first, I just thought it would take time for the servos to adjust, but even if I let it sit for 5 minutes, the temp still won't change.

That may be your problem, cranking it way and then way down. I leave mine settings at one temperature and don't mess with it. You are confusing your poor car, it doesn't know what you want................hot or cold?

Same as the thermostat for your house, do you crank it up and down like a yo-yo?

I have mine set at 72-74 degree range and just leave it there, cranking the heat way up will not get you heat faster, only confuse your system.

Good luck,

Bob

Same here. Leave temp set at same spot. Set them a little higher in winter. I just turn on the heated seats when wew get in and within a quarter mile, everything is toasty warm.

If you are using the "auto" feature I believe there is sensors telling the climate control what temperature "you" are at in the seats.
Check the manual-there is two sensors, one on the dash below windshield, and one silver looking thing in the middle of the controls.
Does yours blow cold air at start up, or does it wait for the coolant to warm up? I have not been able to test that out yet. The wife drives to work daily.

Not to be a jerk, but that is BS. On any of my other vehicles, if I have the heat cranking and I'm too hot, all I have to do is turn the temp down a bit and the temp of the air blowing out of the vents goes down. It's a very simple thing. It's very natural that when you get in a cold car, you want the temp of the air coming out of the vents to be at the max, to warm your interior up faster. Once you start getting too hot, you crank the temp down a bit to keep it at a constant comfortable temperature.

Everyone reading this thread, do me a favor. Once your car is warm enough, crank up the temp. Once you start to get too hot, turn it down to half and let me know if the temp of the air coming out of your vents gets cooler or stays blazing hot. Mine stays blazing hot until I turn it down to the min setting and then back up.

If you are in "auto" the setting on the dial is not the temperature of the air coming out of the heater, it's the setpoint temperature of the desired ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature of your car is say 62 degf in the morning then the controls will dump as much hot air as necessary in order to warm the space up to the number on the dial.
So wheather the dial is at 78 or 72 it's probably going to push out hot air in order to get from 62 up to 72.
It will also dictate the speed of the fan as well. The closer you get to setpoint, the more it will start to back off of the fan speed and heat.

Also, in older cars you are adjusting the amount of hot or cold that comes out of your system. The magnum's auto control is a true temperature control loop (proportional, intergral control loop). It's using a setpoint, a temperature variable, and a controlled output.
Older cars are just an overridden controlled output type of system.

I hope this helps in your understanding and ambient comfort.

Magmania, you hit it on the head.
I do not have the mechanical vocabulary to say all that stuff.
When not in "auto" mode does'nt it work as the older cars do?

I dont think turning it up all the way has a temp change effect(doesnt in the acura). As far as confusing the car that is somewhat wrong, home thermostats still generally have a bi-matalic coil and mercury switch where this is all digital(I hope). What about lowering the fan speed?

I also have issues with the climate control. It sometimes will blow air at an inappropriate temperature, usually too cold. I don't crank it all the way up but have to move the control 4 or 5deg to get it to blow what would be an appropriate temp. And every two or three months the climate control stops working entirely and I have to stop and restart the car to get it to work.

I'ts already been addressed that you apparently think of the temp dial as an air outlet temperature setting whenn it'a a target setting for cabin temperature.

It's a sometime problem for me that I can wait untill an inspection that I want to take it to a dealer for comes up.

I do feel your pain.
