bad motor
Well took it to the shop today. When I picked it up last week it had a definate tapping. Sounded like on the right side. You could hear it especially when it is cold and idleing. Well, they say it sounds fine to them. I do have to admit I could not hear it in their garage. They are keeping it and trying it when it is cold in the morning. I know I am not imagining something. My son, husband and a friend all could hear it also. Is it possible that it only ticks sometimes? they did say something about it being a normal sound. A soli

RE: bad motor
I've had a few cars that make noises when they were cold and warming up, but it's a good thing you took it in to be checked. If the car was warm and in a heated garage, I can understand them not hearing anything. If you park it outdoors, you might mention that to them so they can duplicate the conditions and maybe hear the noise.

RE: bad motor
Thank you both for the reply. Makes me feel a little better. I felt pretty foolish at the shop. Maybe they think because I am an old lady, 65, that I am getting a little hard of hearing. LOL. But, I am not the only one who can hear it when it decides to tap. As I said in an earlier post, running without oil pressure HAD to have hurt that hemi. I am surprised it is running as good as it is. And, they did keep it overnight to try it this morning when it is cold. But, I am betting they won't hear a thing. So, I will pick it up today and run it and see what happens. What else can I do?
It has 22 days in the shop now with the broken rocker arm and the oil pump failure. Might just have to lemon that car. Just can't imagine not having a Magnum. Love that car.
B.J. P.S. yes read that post. Sounds familiar. Hope your problems have ended. Good Luck

RE: bad motor
They called me to come get the car. They cannot hear anything wrong with it even when it is cold. So I will get it and drive it and hope for the best. I can only hope this is the last problem. As I said, I love that car and don't want anything else. So much fun to drive and soooo beautiful.

RE: bad motor
My Magnum only has about 2,000 miles on it now. Up until about 50 miles or so it made an annoying "tick" from one side of the motor. Bout drove me nuts and the dealership techs pulled up a Magnum fresh off the transporter and ran them both side by side. My engine was noticeably louder but not by much. Sounded like the sound was coming from the injectors.
I theorized I was getting bad fuel in the engine and so far it appears I was right. Dumped a can of SeaFoam in the tank and filled it up with fuel. Drove the car real hard that tank and filled it up again without the cleaner. Car has alot more pep and no more "tick".
