Passenger Air Bag Switch
I stopped for a school bus the other day.
The guy driving the van behind me didn't--until after he got up close and personal with the rear end of my Magnum.
That's what we all pay insurance for though. No one was hurt and as a humorous aside, the bus driver opened his window and yelled a few things at the guy driving the van--while pointing at the "stop" sign that flips out from the side of the bus.
Anyhow, my rear bumper will be replaced, but the passenger side air bag will not come on. The indicator light that says it is deactivated will not go out. I was told on the phone by the body shop that the switch under the seat was probably knocked loose and they will fix it when I bring the car in for repair (after the bumper is ordered and received...). Meanwhile, does anyone know the location of the switch under the passenger seat? I would like to have the passenger side air bag in service if such a thing would happen to cause it to be needed.

I suspect the switch is under the bottom. But did you check to see if something has moved in the accident? One person put a cd case under there and set the switch off. This weekend I had baseboard molding hanging out the passenger window. Just the weight of 2 boards on the seat back set off the switch. Check for anything under on leaning on the seat.
the seat frame is pressure sensitive. if you loosen up the bolts, or torque a corner of the seat, it will deactivate, and have to be reset and recalibrated at the dealer. This as far as i know is the only way. it will be under warranty as long as your still in warranty. Hope this helps
Thanks for the info.
As it turned out, the rear bumper shell was replaced. There was slight damage to the "bumper" under the cover that required some straightening. Also, a plastic piece inside of the trunk area had some minor scratches from the misalignment--and was replaced. The body shop, Car Struction, in Chesapeake, VA did a great job. I was updated every day and the work they did was more than I expected.
However... the car had to go to the dealer, Greenbrier Dodge in Chesapeake, VA, to have the air bag switch problem fixed. This took nearly two weeks.
There were no updates unless I called--even then, the information was often conflicting. One call, the service guy I normally deal with was unaware that I had talked to someone earlier in the day, tried to tell me that the problem was that the wrong parts had been ordered.
He did not know that the previous guy went out to talk to the guy that had pulled my entire passenger seat out, had no clue what was wrong, and had been on the phone with some "tech" people for more than 45 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong.
So, in summary, the body repair was completed in about 2 days. The air bag switch problem took about 12 days.
Bottom line: I do not plan to go back to that dealership for another purchase, service, or any other reason.
