Viper Hood Problem! Please help!
I have a Viper Hood sitting at a body shop that claim they can not get the hood to close properly. I found my hood at AutoTruck Toys.com. If any of you have the Viper hood, can you tell me where you purchased it or did you have to do any modifying to get it to close properly?
do you have an '06 magnum? the hood prop rod will not clear the rk hood. you can add the gas hood struts from an '05 and remove the rod. or, you can modify the hood to clear the prop rod. any good body shop can get the hood to work no matter what. tell them to solve it.
Yes I have an 06 Magnum. The body shop has had my car for ten days. They tell me after seven days they can't fit the hood. They say I may have a bad hood and order another one. They tell me they can not install the hood do to it hitting the top of the radiator. It may be they just don't want to do the job. I asked why they couldn't modify the hood to fit, they told me it would weaken the hood.
the hood is hitting the prop rod. the '06 hoods have a channel notched to clear the rod. the rk hood does not have this. i modified my hood to clear the rod. if your bodyshop can't do the job, find another. all the rk hoods will have the same problem even if you get another one.
i can't believe a professional bodyshop can't get the job done for you. if the hood is hitting the core support, they need to shim up the rubber front a little to line up with the hood. a two minute mod at best.

Hey Heminuts, in response to your email, i have an 05 and the shop rep where i took mine said that they did have to make some sort of adjustment to the latch and also i have to give it a pretty good slam for it to latch completely. I did'nt go into the details because the bottom line was that it was closing okay and i was happy with the final product.
I bought mine through high horse performance inc. but rksport is the actual manufactuer.
I agree with 65standard. If the shop is reputable and professional they should be able to make it work.
Go to rksport.com and get their support phone number and talk to them about it. They may be able to help you.
Good Luck

Thanks for the info! I went to the bodyshop today and picked up my car. I don't think they really wanted to do the job, even though the owner said he even tried to help instal the hood. I found a body shop that does Custom and Collector cars. He told me to bring it to him and he will fit the hood. I told him what I went through, and shared your information. He said it will help them what to look for during installation. We will see. Thanks everyone!
Well I went to see the bodyman who is going to fit my hood. I showed him the pictures of your cars with the Vipor Hood. He went nuts over the photos and said "Man what a BAD _ _ _ RIDE". He is the son of the owner of the body shop. He told me he will do the hood himself and install a splitter on the front . He showed me around the shop and showroom, NICE! They are building a Nova to run on PINKS. He tells me the show is being filmed in Gainesville, FL this weekend, about forty minutes from their shop. NICE CAR. All they had left to do is install the engine.

A splitter is like a front spoiler. I don't know why they call it a splitter, but it sticks out from the front rather down. The front end of the Dodge viper is a good example.
I'll post some photos when I get it back!
