Default Brake Dust Blues !!!!! Grrrrrrrr!!!!

Hi Gang.... Am a new member and owner of a " SRT-8 " and loving it so far other than for what I feel is excessive brake dusting..... As usual my " Rocket Scientist Service Manager's " answer is, " Sorry, but you have to live with it...". Any assistance or suggestions in this area is most welcomed...Also, over the years I have always changed my exhaust systems to " FlowMaster 40's " and any information or suggestion will also be appreciated such as installation problems, etc..... Take care and hope to hear you soon...Thanks..... John from NC ( Any other mebers from NC ????)

P.S. Also, any problems I should be aware of with my Mag STR-8 ????

Get Ceramic Brake Pads... Best for your Dust Issue... Also, try using your Auto-Stick to decelerate, that will cut down on your wear and tear of your Brakes, and you want to break your Transmission before 70,000 miles anyways, so you get a free replacement... I am suprised to hear of this issue, maybe it's because of the Brembo Brakes. My RT has about 1/2" on my front pads still at 36,000 miles. I thought I needed Brakes at 25,000 due to some excessive hard braking from 125 to 60 MPH, but the Mechanic called me in and said, "What are you, some kind of Joker? Your brakes are fine! Barely used!" My nephew has a new car with your Brake Dust issue. He is a clean freak, so this really set him off. (whatever, it's a car... A daily driver, not a show car... There is a difference...) So, he replaced his stock pads with Ceramic Pads and is totally pleased with the results. Last weekend he did the 'Liquid Glass' Zaino treatment on his car. For like 6 Hours! Clear Coat is smooth like glass and reflects like a mirror, but screw that... Too much work! Now his rims match his clear coat... Clean.

First off, congrats on a great purchase. You should now begin to participate in the SRT8 area of this forum, also check out SRTOC.com and LXForums.com... this room here will not get you the answers you need.

Brake dust: ALL high performance brakes do this. Buy a $200k Lamborghini and you'll get the exact same thing. DO NOT pay any money for ceramic pads. There is a fix on the way from SRT regarding the squealing and rotor scoring (you just haven't had it long enough to see this yet) and it is due by summer. This will be a TSB so it's free.

Going into the room, and other forums I listed above... do a search for "brake issue" or "brakes" and also tranny issue and 1-2 shift problem. There are lots of little quirks to our beasts, but they are almost worked out. I am working with SRT now for the last few months to get these fixes done and I am updating all progress over at lxforums.

06MNRT,
Why not get Ceramic Brake Pads to cut down on the dust? Will the TSB eliminate the Brake Dust, or just the defect? I suggest getting the TSB and seeing how the Brake Dust is, then if it is still excessive, get the Ceramic Pads. They do cut down on the dust... Besides, it's only a bit more for Ceramic Brake Pads... If you don't like the Ceramics, then go back to Stock. What are you going to be out, considering you needed new Pads anyways? Couple hundred dollars, if that? I put that in the little door at the Rear of the Car on the Drivers Side every week... If brake dust bothered me, I would try the Ceramics. The rims just wipe right off, so I don't even bother... The rear of the car is dirty by the time the front rims are dirty, so I just clean the whole damn thing!

I agree, ceramic pads would be bette,r but that won't fix our rotor scoring issues. :-(
