I also did a cat back modification. I went with 2 magnaflows in place of the suitcase muffler. The two mufflers in the rear I replaced with two 12 inch glass packs. After listening to several combinations I realized that 2 additional mufflers weren't necessary. The two glass packs serve as effective resonators so that you don't get any drone in the vehicle. The sound is throaty but not obnoxious.

ok, i was an import tuner back in my teens, the good ol' days before import tuners were all the rage. i have graduated to V8 muscle car status! and i am itching to get back into tunin up my ride. first thing first, the stock exhaust does not sound like a car with a 340hp 5.7L engine. can someone suggest a setup for a nice clean throaty sound? i liked ddakota's idea of replacing the 2 exhausts with glass packs. i also noticed u modified from the cat back...what diameter piping did u use? also, when the car is in 4 cylinder mode, does the car sound like a lil high pitched 4 banger?

There is no difference in sound between 4 and 8 cylinder mode (at least as far as I can tell). You have a nice throaty sound that fits the 5.7L Hemi nicely with the exhaust swap.

None that I am aware of. I would expect to start seeing these kits by the end of the year though as more of the cars hit the streets.

Guys:

I have been in contact with Borla, Corsa and Bossani.

All are working on applications for the Magnum.

Cheers,

JS

I think you will be pleased with the setup I described in my previous email. There is no difference in sound when the car goes into 4 cylinder mode. I strongly suggest you find a competent muffler shop that will temporarily put on several different mufflers to see what sound you like best. I have used Flowmasters in the past, but they have a tendency to drone very loudly at certain points of an engines rpm band. I personally like the magnaflows straight through design. The Hemi engine is an engine based on torque not rpms. The cam in the car is not high lift or lopey. As such The Magnums will not have an excessive exhaust sound. You could almost run straigth pipe and it not be too objectionable. I of course do not recommend this. The stock mufflers were designed to keep the car relatively quiet and to make the change from 8 to 4 cylinder transparent through the exhaust note. That is why the two back mufflers are irrelevant except for the purpose previously mentioned. I work with a good muffler shop in Santa Rosa, California by the name of Johnny Franklin's Mufflers. The complete setup ran about $350.00 out the door. The Borla, Corsa, etc. systems that will be prefabed will cost that much and possilby more before installation. In my opinion a custom exhaust is the only way to go. Also, I used the stock size pipe all the way through. We actually made our cut in front of the old suitcase muffler, which is behind the stock x-pipe. Hope this helps you make a good choice. I'll try to post pictures of my exhaust setup in a few days.

Keith:

Would really love to see some pictures. Sounds like a good set up.

BTW, Random Technology is working on a high flow cat application for the Magnum too.

Regards,
JS

As said above, you should be able to use the gears from one of the v6 models. Anyone know what the ring gear diameter is? that will be the major determining factor for whether they can hold up.
the 5sp auto has a lower first gear to compensate for the high rear gear. Also helps for the fuel economy on the highway. I'd switch to the 3.5l gears, i think the 3.90's will be a chore to keep tires from burning off the wheels.
