Default new rims?

Hello all,

Well, I have finished with a few of the easier mods for my '05 RT. I cut out the resonator, installed a billet grill upper and lower, K&N air charger 63-1114, and some Hemi floor mats. Now I think I will go for new rims. I don't like the gap between the wheel-wells and the stock Cont. tires with the 18" stock wheels. My question is; has anyone swapped the 18" for 20" and tires? If so, what dimensions did you go with for the combo? i want to fill in those gaps as much as possible without changing the suspension. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Other questions. What is the standard offset with the stock RT 18" wheels? Has anyone gone wider on the rear than the front?

Thanks,
Randall

Hey Randy. I am by no means an expert but I wanted to get rid of the gap on my 05 RT also. When I bought the car it already had 20's that the dealer installed. I then went up to 22's thinking that a bigger wheel and tire would do the job. It did not.

The only way to reduce the gap is to lower the suspension. Going up to a bigger wheel will not change the overall diameter of the wheel and tire. All you will achieve is a bigger rim with a smaller side wall on your tire.

I ended up lowering my suspension (but was hesistant to do so) and going back down to 20's because the 22" profile tires were too thin for my taste.
I have'nt looked back and have had no regrets about lowering the suspension.

I am running on 20x8.5 rims and 255/45/R20 tires with the Eibach Prokit springs. I'm not sure what my offset is ...I want to say 15? Not sure what the standard is for the factory 18,s.

MagMania,

Thanks a lot for your advice. Your ride looks great. That look is what I am going for. I talked to a friend of mine here in NC and he said the same thing. Lowering the suspension was my best route. I think I found the 20" rims I want and the tires to go with. And, I think to have what I want I will pursue the Eibach kit.

Thanks again,
Randall
