Default new car and oil change

Guys,

I am brand new here. Just bought a 06 magnum and it has 450 miles on it. It sat at teh dealer for 8 months and I really want to get the oil out and put fresh new oil in the crank. I also want to get any metal out of the system pronto! I am reading that going synthetic is a no-no for the first 3-5k miles. The local auto zone has a oil/filter special running right now which is using Mobil 1 5w20 "5000mile" oil and a STP oil filter. I don't think this is semi-synthetic oil. I would imagine that is the case because it is 2.50 per quart compared to Penzoil at 2.99/qt.

I just want to know what oil you are using. I have always used Penzoil in my Avenger and it doesn't burn a drop at 134,000 miles. PH16 oil filters too. Looks like this beast uses PH16's also? Is that ok? I just want the right stuff in there for break in and such. May possibly go syn. later, but still up in the air about that. What are your thoughts??

Anybody want a great 98 avenger with 134k pampered miles???

Thanks for all the help. Hope to be a regular on the forum

Todd

I changed my R/T's oil to Mobil 1 after 600 miles. My SRT came with Mobil 1 as the initial fill. My last several cars have all had Mobil 1 installed before 1000 miles. With modern engines there is no need to wait.

Thanks for the info. I think I may just use the penzoil for the first oil change and then strongly consider syn. Still trying to figure this monster out. Never had a new car before!
Thanks again!
