I have noticed that the air conditioning on my Magnum RT is not as cold as I would like. Once you take it off the maximum setting, it seem to almost warm up and take on some humidity. Is any other Magnum owner nioticing this?

What is the outside temperature? Most systems will make it 15-20 degrees cooler than outside temp.

Are you recirculating inside air? This will give you max cooling, down here in Florida - I always leave it on max or inside air.

It is just the way a/c works now, since they took away freon.

Bob - I'm in Dallas and granted it gets hot. However, a couple things; I just got out of a 2001 Sebring that, if I remember correctly, didn't use freon, either. And it seemed fine wine I took it off max setting. Plus, it has been unusally cool down here for the summer. Usuall daytime highs of 98+ degress have given way to low 90's. Lows at night usually in the mid to upper 80's are in the mid to lower 70's. Plus lower than normal humidity. But the condidtion still exists.

Anyway, I'm just over 500 miles from a 3000 mile service, so I can have them look at it then. I just seem to remember someone out in this forum mentioning their air wasn't cold but the situation was fixed.

Thanks, Nick

Also remember that your inside area is now a lot bigger, much bigger than a regular 4door sedan.

More volume inside equals harder to cool area.

Just a thought.

If you leave it closed up tight then the inside will be like an oven, If you park for long time in the sun use a window shade or better yet a good car cover. The cover will keep it clean, keep it much cooler and even offer a little margin of safety, what you do not see you do not touch etc.[&:]

I noticed the same thing while test driving. I was hoping it would go away once the car got moving, but i put the windows down to hear the engine!!! Cold A/C is a must. It was like the car was low on "freon".

OMG, please don't leave the A/C on max air or recirc or inside, whatever you want to call it. Read your owners manual, it clearly states NOT to leave it in that position. If you never run fresh air through the evap coil it will start to smell very quickly from the bacteria (gross) that grows on it. Spraying Lysol in the fresh air intake once in a while helps to kill the bacteria.

I've begun to motice that the A/C in our SXT is not as cold as it was when we first took delivery. We traded a VW Passat that had a lousy air conditioner, and, by comparison, the A/C in the Dodge seemed much better, but, after having had it for a couple of weeks, I have noticed that it doesn't get as cold as it did. I opened the hood today, and noticed that the A/C system calls for only 1.625 lbs of R-134 coolant, which didn't sound like very much to me. I would guess that it wouldn't take much coolant loss to cripple a system that had so little R-134 in it?!?!

I suppose the biggest problem is when it gets over 90ish outside, nothing seems cold enough. At 90 degrees, the outlet vent temp is only at 60 degrees to still within spec. In contrast, that same A/C system will easily blow 45 degrees on a colder day, so I could see how it would "seem" warm.
