Ok, so I went out to my car and looked, and it's a breeze.
Wrote up some quick instructions that worked for me. I may modify parts of them as I'm not entirely sure which movement released the white clips from the car
Anways, text and pics here: http://onitap.com/magnum_frontdoorpanel.php
Also, yes, the Boston acoustic system has 6x9's in the front door.
Here's some pics:

Awesome instructions, man I wish they would have put 6X9's it the SXT. Those Boston speakers look a lot better then the factory speakers that come with the SXT. Did you cut them open to see what they look like? Are they paper cones? How many push clips did you loose? I replaced all of them. What are you going to install in the place of the Boston's?

Haven't cut them open, but they look like paper cones with paper/clothish surrounds. I'm keepign it all entact in case I trade the car in in 3 years or so

As for what's replacing them, I havent' decided.
I'm leaning towards MB Quart 6x9 components.... or just infinity reference 6x9's..

The 6 disc mp3 player with the boston system has a weird wiring harness. It has 12+, -, and then 3 wires I can't figure out what they do. It looks like the 6 speakers share a common ground or something, as there is only 7 other wires coming off the harness. I gave up trying to find a wiring harness, so I'm putting in my pioneer 8600 with a completely seperate setup. I'll run new speaker wires from my amp in the back to the new speakers.. I just have to find somewhere to wire the illumination wire to on the radio...

You have the amplified system, I assume.
There are two wires to the amp that tie in to CAN BUS, and a third for power.
The other inputs to the amp are Front + / - and rear + / - signals from the head unit.
There are six inputs (two pairs of three) to the head unit if you have the Sirius Digital radio module.
Otherwise there is a +12, a ground and an antenna connection.

Here's a picture of the boston acoustic speakers from the dash...

And here's one of my new Polk Audio 6.5"s in my custom adapter for the front door.

Angry Pickle:
A very nice and well-documented installation. Now I would like to share with you my experiences with my SXT speaker installation. I have the SXT with the optional 6 disc changer and cassette, but had the standard 4 speaker system. Being something of a music lover and audiophile, I was impressed with the function of the in-dash head unit, but frustrated with the tubby and muddy sound the system produced. I visited my local car stereo shop, and spoke to a young man who actually understood what I wanted: better clarity, definition and deliniation of instruments, and a more convincing stereo image. I also HATE one-note bass, I wanted to hear tuneful bass: I want to be able to hear pitch changes in plucked and percussive bass, with enough attack and decay to convince me that the music was actually interesting. He suggested using the Rockford-Fosgate Punch series 6.5' component speakers in the front door These speakers come with two tweeters: I had him install one tweeter mounted coaxially with the in-door woofer, and the other tweeter mounted in the factory location in the dashboard. For the rear, he suggested using Rockford-Fosgate Punch 6x9 component triaxial speakers in the factory locations in front of the rear wheel wells, facing up towards the ceiling.
Since this was the first Magnum they had worked on, this was an adult-education course in Chrysler LX body engineering: The stock speaker system differed from the Boston Acoustic speaker system in that it uses a different plastic adapter to mount the speaker to the door: the SXT uses an adapter built for 6.5" speakers while the Boston Acoustics system uses an adapter designed for a 6x9 speaker. Mounting the speakers in the door was fairly easy after the door panels were removed, but getting access to the dashboard location to mount the front tweeters was trickier: there was no factory speaker wire present in the dashboard, and new wiring had to be routed to that location on both sides of the dashboard. The dashboard mounting location uses little blank plastic cups to cover the holes where the speakers would mount, and they had to be removed, new brackets fashioned to mount the tweeters, and black carpeting used to black-out opening above the mounting bracket and below the tweeters themselves. The 6x9 trixials mounted easily in the rear, with no modification of any kind required: there is substantial mounting depth in that location.
The result: almost everything I had hoped for; terrific clarity and definition, superb stereo imaging, tight, tuineful bass that is satisfying for jazz and classical music, but perhaps a bit light for more percussive kinds of music. The rear speakers are a quantum improvement over the stock speakers, too, with better clarity, but I suspect that some loose rock-wool insulation in the cavity into which the speaker fires might help the bass response.
I have not yet installed an amplifier, but am considering the Rockford-Fosgate 4004 which is a 50 watt RMS x4 amplifier, which looks as if it will fit nicely in the space in front of the cargo organizer, I wanted to live with the system for a while, though, to determine how much I like the sound that I have before I install the ampifier. After listening to the system without the amp, though, I believe that the amplifier will probably come after Labor Day.
As for listening: well, it's miles better than what I got from the stock system, even without the amplifier: I listened to some Dave Brubeck, Clark Terry, Beethoven 6th Symphony, and a few local radio stations on the way home, and I am convinced that the improvement in sound was worth the cost! The bass tightened and sharpened immediatelyiano and strings finally had musical timbre and life. I heard the fingering of the plucked bass, and hammer on strings of the piano! Amazing! Now I can't wait to get the amplifier installed to see what kind of improvements that makes.
Of course while I was at the store, I saw these really cool video monitors mounted in headrests that look absolutely perfect for entertaining the kinderloch on long trips. Playstation and Gamecube, anyone?

tigerbangs, thanks for the report. Sounds like you have a nice system...

Mine however is giving me headaches.

I ran completely new wires for all the speakers, using nothing of the existing system.... However, I believe I ran a wire too close to a computer signal wire or something, as I'm currently getting MASSIVE amounts of interference when the ignition is on.. My cars in a friend's garage right now torn apart. Will be back at it in the morning trying to find a way to run the speaker wires down the center of the car, away from any other wiring.. Going to do a test first and connect speakers with short (3') speaker wires to the amp, to see if that is where the interference is coming from...

However, when the ignition is off, it sounds incredible. Full range, crips highs, strong mids, even very good bass with just the 6x9 3-ways in the back and the 6.5 components in the front. My sub is wired, but I did not have it on yet...

Sounds like a ground loop to me.
One of your components is improperly grounded or there are too many grounds in your system.
Finally it could be that one of the speaker leads that you ran is grounded.

Any of these things can cause the symptom you describe.

What amplifier are you using? The stock 280 watt one or something aftermarket. How did you connect it if it is an aftermarket amp?

First thing I checked for was a ground loop. I grounded the radio to the same place as the amp. I'm using an aftermarket autotek 4 channel amplifer. I've also tried a 4 channel sony amp. Results are the same with both. I even grounded the amp and the radio directly to the battery, same results. I pulled out the speaker wire and rca's, ran them in the open down the center of the car, speaker wires on one side of the transmission hump, rca's on the other. Same results. I tried different rca cables, same results. I tried different speaker wires, same results. I'm wondering is something is wrong with the car's wiring and the +12 is just REALLY noisy??? I even moved the stereo to the back and made sure all my wires were near no other wires, same results... I'm at a loss now..

Has anyone else personally installed a new system, complete new system, in this car?
