I need help identifying my Automatic Transmission
Hey guys, I was wondering if there is an easy way to determine what kind of transmission my car has.
Itsa 1974 Dodge Charger SE which use to have a 318 V8 and now its being upgraded to a 360 V8.
I am trying to determine if its an A727, A904, A998
Any help would greatly be appreciated. I also tried running the Fender Tag code for the Transmission with little to no success in trying to determine my transmission. The transmission code on the fender tag is D34 if that helps.
Thanks guys.
jason

I have a 73 Charger and on the transmission case it says A-727, you could probably start there.
And I believe (although there are a TON of people that know more than me about the trannys and if im wrong im sure they will chime in to correct me) that where the dipstick tube goes into the transmission is an easy way to identify it from the top.
Although I dont really know how to describe the physical characteristics. After looking online for some pictures, I failed, but i did find pictures of the boltpatterns of the 727 and the 904
<--727
<--904
I know its a little late, but hope it helps (im working on my own transmission misadventure so just trying to help who i can)
