Default Manual trans ?'s

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this site, and i hope that someone can give me some help! Im looking into putting a manual transmission behind a 360 in a 1970 Duster. The car was a slant 6, soim not afraid to cut things up if necessary. Ive been looking around at options for a reasonably priced manual conversion kit, so before any of you suggest it, ive looked at the keisler 5 spd, and for $4000+ no thanks. Ive also looked at Gear Vendors, and at $2500+ not interested either. here are the options at hand:
1. Summit sells a bellhousing that will bolt up a Borg Warner T-10 to a 360.
2. Take that bellhousing for the T-10 and add a conversion plate and try to put a used T-56 6 speed in.
3. Go with the good ol' A833 (modified to a 5 speed?) .

I would love to go with either the A833 or the T-56. I do however want an overdrive, but not the stock4 spd A833 overdrive trans. I am POSOTIVE I saw an article in a mopar magazine (which one i dont know) about 6 months ago with a tech article on how to convert an A833 to a 5 speed, without and MAJOR modifications. Is this true??? Where could i find another copy of it??? ive looked online all day, and cant find it.

Someone Please help me find that article, as it would be the easiest and cheapestway to get an overdrive and still maintain performance. Also, what are your thoughts on the T-56 conversion (can it be done?)

Thanks Everyone for reading this post, and to Anyone who has any info to share!

Welcome to the site! For the transmission, I would stick with the good 'ol A833. In a 3200 pound car with the right gears 3.23, 3.55 tops, you could cruise all day long on the 4 speed.

just my .02, Got pics?

Finding the A833 should be relatively easy, just be sure it is a short tailshaft for an A-Body.

Well, I bought an A833 for an A-body, with 23 spline shaft today on ebay. To the untrained eye (mine) everything looks good, but im assuming that it might need a basic rebuild before it gets put into the car. Can anyone help me in finding an article from a magazine, maybe it wasnt a mopar mag. (Hemmings Muscle.???), but it had a 2-3 pg write up on adding a fifth speed to an A833- i know what i saw, but not where. Any info on this would be greatly appriciated, thanks!
