No more deals to be had
I give up. I have $7500 saved up and can't find a decent Mopar anywhere. My dream is a 1967 Belvedere to restore but I can't find anything but rusted junk. I fear the Barris bunch has put us middle class out of the classic business with the prices going crazy. Have I missed something? I live in Alabama.
I agree, prices have gotten a bit rediculous the past 5 years or so. Having said that, there are still deals to be had out there and I would say the 1967 model your looking for would be a good candidate although they to have increased quite a bit lately. What's happening is once a particular model car gets so expensive that the masses look to another model/year and it doesn't take long for that model to start to increase. Look for the models that haven't caught on yet or are still within your budget. The 1968-1972 A-bodies would be a good candidate. A few of my favorites are only a dream now due to the prices. Good Luck.
Granted, the E bodies are priced out of this world. Chargers and Roadrunners have skyrocketed too. But, the deals are still there. There are Satellites that can be made into Roadrunner clones. You just have to be patient and keep looking. Early A bodies are still a good buy and can make great cars. I attached a picture of my '65 Barracuda that cost me about $10 K to build including a Magnum 380 crate engine. Now, I can do a lot of the work myself. Learning to to do the work yourself will save you tons of moola. My friend has a '68 Dart rolling chassis for sale for, I think, around $3K. I haven't seen it but he says it's in okay shape and I trust him. That's a very desirable year for a Dart due to the Hemi Darts. He has a gorgeous '70 Hemi Challenger and is building a '70 340 six pack Challenger to match. E-mail me if you're interested and I'll hook you guys up. Early B bodies that are worth building can be had well within you budget if you're willing to do some rust repair. I found the attached Belvedere in Hesperia, CA (high desert). That was the driest, straightest body I have seen in years. No rust whatsoever. We simply block sanded it and painted it. I got the rolling chassis for $2,500. Now I spent a lot more building this one but I could have easily built a nice car and kept it in the $10 - $15K range if that was my goal. I picked up my Duster body for $700. It is all there and dry except for the trunk floor. We're putting a fuel cell in there anyway so that's not a problem. The floors and interior are in real good shape. It'll need a dash pad, a new grill, bumpers and a hood. We're going with a lift of fiberglass hood with a six pack scoop. Our plan is to build a mid 10 second street legal car on a budget of $15K. So, hang in there. It can still be done.

The Belvedere and Polora are both very popular in drag racing which also reduces the chances of finding any in decent shape for a reasonable price. You can try checking the Mopar Collectors Guide.
The deals are still out there. You may have to search longer and harder than you used to, and they may not appear to be the bargains that they were once upon a time, but if you think you're going to save yourself anything by getting a Phurd or Shivvy, think again... you priced a Chevelle, Camaro, or older Mustang lately? They don't give them away either.....

Just picked up today and will evaluate the over all condition of the car to justify restore or part out. I am doing some heavy lifting and moving for a church family member that is not able to do for himself anymore. The car was sitting on the street a few years ago when a drunk driver hit it from behind and crushed the l/h bumper, quarter fender and trunk in quit a few inches in. It has been setting by the barn ever since. The rest of the body and glass is nearly perfect. Inside is going to be the big factor. Has the original 383 and 727. Anyone have any leads on the l/rear will help with my decision. Thanks.
Look through http://www.cars-on-line.com/mopar.html there may be a deal or two to be had. You may need to travel a bit. There's always Craigslist and Ebay. "Decent" 40 year old cars are not impossible to find, but it does take some looking.
