68 roadrunner key not working

68 roadrunner key not working

so when i turn the key the car sometimes but not often will turn over. the rest of the time im under the hood with a screwdriver jumping the starter manually. what causes this? is it a starter solenoid?

My Coronet R/T does the same thing every once in a while. I bought a new starter relay, but have not installed it yet. It is only a minor inconvenience to me. Always carry an extra ballast resistor:
