72 scamp rear end
#3
We have been running a FORD 8" rear end from a ford maverick in a 73 dart for the past 13 years.
The 69 to 75 ford maverick sized cars with the 8" rear end is the same spring perch dimension as the stock a body mopar whatever that thing was rear end. It was used behind a 4 speed 302 car.
The beauty of the ford is all the later model 8.8" brakes will fit (just change the backing plate) Our rear brakes came off a Lincoln town car 11X3" and the axles are the same as the ford 9" of the same width.
How did we end up with a ford 8" -- all I could find at the JY the correct width for the dart except the throw-away 7.25 mopar rear end that I had.
The car is powered by a HP 440 it is a 3.0 ratio street machine but is has eaten its share of tires and still runs fine.
I also have a 2.79 pumpkin that is scheduled to go back in to help with the price of gas.
Your only issue is emergency brake cable length and drive shaft u-joints.
The big beauty of the FORD --- summit racing and others have the posi and gear sets to do what ever you want.
Much easier than messing with the old mopar light duty rears.
