1979 Chrysler 300?

RE: 1979 Chrysler 300?
I wrote an article on the J body over at MoparStyle. The Cordoba LS you are talking about is a great looker, even beats out the Mirada, I think. And a very few were built as 300's in the first run. I talked to one guy who had one with the 360. I have a nice v8 equipped 83 Mirada in my back yard, it is my next project, but would trade it for a nice LS Cordoba in a heartbeat. Here is a link to the J body article. I wrote one for the M body as well.

I think I know what you're talking about - it had the big crosshair/gunsight grille and came in red and white. Looks like the Cordoba/Mirada body - might have been a 300 option package rather than a model probably consisted only of exterior trim. If memory serves, you could only get the 360 4bbl with dual exhaust in 1980, so it probably wasn't much of a performance oriented car.
It's funny, Mopar seemed convinved that two door personal luxury was the wave of the future in '79. Remember they had that two door Imperial, as well as the '78 LeBaron and even two door Diplomats. I'm surprised they didn't have a two door St. Regis that year. How many two doors do they have now? Three?
I devoted a whole chapter to the '79 300 in my recent book "Horsepower War" - maybe I'll try to post it here in a couple of chunks. It had the E-58 police 360, the biggest, strongest engine they were making in '79. I was fascinated with the '79 because it almost seemed like the first attempt at a "retro" car - the publicity materials referred to it as "the beautiful brute" just like the '50s 300.
